It looks like the very attack the Repulicans use against the Democrats has come back to bite themselves:

Republican efforts to craft a policy and political agenda to carry the party into the midterm elections have stumbled repeatedly as GOP leaders face widespread disaffection and disagreement within the ranks.

Anxiety over President Bush’s Iraq policy, internal clashes over such divisive issues as immigration, and rising complaints that the party has abandoned conservative principles on spending restraint have all hobbled the effort to devise an election-year message, said several lawmakers involved in the effort.

Now it appears that the platform of the Democrats, which the Republicans like to coin as “losing”, is the one that could help deliver them a great victory this fall. No longer is “do the opposite of Bush” or “vote against Bush” the sound of defeat. Americans are tired of his continuous blunders which have cost us so much money, so many lives and so many civil liberties.

The Republicans also hold the lead on one issue. The problem is that issue has now become the least of America’s worries:

A new poll conducted to judge American views on education finds that the top concern for most remains foreign affairs and the war, followed by social issues like education and healthcare, next by economic issues, and finally by the types of morals issues that some GOP presidential candidates like Sen. Sam Brownback are basing their campaigns on.

Conducted by Republican David Winston and Democrat Peter Hart, the poll found that when people were asked which issue they were the least concerned with, 36 percent said morals issues, 22 percent said social issues, 19 percent said economic issues, and 15 percent answered foreign affairs.

People are not worried that much about gay marriage or abortion. If we do not have a secure nation with a viable economy none of that really matters. What does matter is things like the economy, health care, education and national security. In all of those areas, the Democrats earn higher marks than the Republicans. Their old agenda of “family values” is a dead item. After all, everything changed on September 11. Seems like the Republicans are the ones living in that post 9-11 world.
