What Happened To All That Voter Fraud?

06.11.07.PollFaults-X Is the FBI still investigating ACORN? I remember hearing how there was tons of fraud here in Ohio, especially Cincinnati. Well the local election board has now finished investigating, and '>look what they found:

We now have an answer to the million-dollar question: was there voter fraud in Hamilton County?

“Not at this time,” said Sally Krisel, Elections Board Director.

The board met this morning to review questionable or problematic ballots cast in the Nov. 4 election. The vast majority of the questions involved stray marks or tears on the ballot.

“I don’t think we’ll find anything criminal with those,” Krisel said.

Out of all those ballots, there are only four that are questionable. Now that is widespread fraud. It’s ironic that we heard all this talk about fraud by ACORN before the election, and then there was silence. The Republicans just created another boogie man, and he scared no one.

ACORN Goes After The GOP For Voter Suppression

It's great to see ACORN firing back at the GOP over their bogus allegations.

ACORN isn't laying down either, filing two lawsuits today. This entire faux-outrage by the rabid right has really shown their hatred. Who in their right mind would think that a national group like ACORN would collude to go out and illegally register people? It's about as absurd as saying the RNC is holding meetings on how to keep blacks from voting.

No Federal Funding For Those Under Investigation?

John Boehner wants Bush to cut off all federal funding to ACORN

Boehner said his office had determined that ACORN had received more than $31 million in direct federal funding since 1998. He said the group had likely received far more indirectly through federal block grants to states and localities. "Immediate action is necessary to ensure that no additional tax dollars are directed to ACORN while it is under investigation," he wrote Bush.

So shouldn't the same apply to federal contractors who are under investigation? How about Halliburton, KBR or even Blackwater? If we are going this far, how about members of Congress or the administration who are under federal investigation? Karl Rove and Scooter Libby continued receiving tax payer funds while under federal investigation. Ted Stevens has to.

Boehner is acting like this "investigation" is a done deal and the verdict has been reached. I believe Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer should fire back with the recommendations I listed above. Let's see how many Republicans on Capital Hill continue to work when they no longer get paid, or how many contractors continue working in Iraq without their pay.

ACORN Nuttiness

Allegations of voter fraud by ACORN are being exaggerated according to election law officials:

Charges of potential vote fraud volleyed by Republicans, including Sen. John McCain himself, are out of proportion to reality, according to election experts.

The concerns raised by the Republican National Committee in daily conference calls with reporters, as well as by McCain himself in Wednesday's debate focus on the nonprofit group Acorn, whose nationwide voter registration efforts have garnered apparently fraudulent registration cards, some for fictional characters like "Mickey Mouse."

The news that the Obama campaign is going after McCain, the RNC and the White House for pushing these investigations is great news. Every cycle the Republicans cry voter fraud and it gets investigated then those claims are unfounded. Last time it resulted in U.S. Attorneys like David Iglesias getting fired. This meant our Justice Department became a political machine.

The Republicans really need to think about this. We are just over 2 weeks from a most likely Democratic super majority running our government. Do they want President Barack Obama politicizing the Justice Department like Bush has done - especially when oversight will be by his own party? You can bet if Obama pushes forward with an investigation after taking the oath of office, he will be ridiculed by the Right. He shouldn't let that go though, and our democracy depends upon a thorough investigation based upon fact and not politics. The fact that he is wanting investigations back to 2004 shows that he is serious about putting an end to Republican attempts at voter disenfranchisement once and for all.
