Cross Over Voting In Ohio Under Investigation

Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 10:35 am

There has been a lot of confusion since the Ohio Primary. Some people have labeled it as an "open primary". As a former precinct captain, I can tell you that is not necessarily the case.

While you are allowed to change parties when voting in the primary, you are required to sign a form stating that you are doing so because you uphold the political beliefs of that party.

Ohio's primary system is semi-closed in the sense that voters are required to declare their party affiliation on primary day. Independent voters may ask for a Democratic or Republican Party ballot with no questions asked. But the law requires poll workers to challenge voters who have declared themselves Democrats or Republicans during the last two years.

Crossover voters must sign a form stating they intend to uphold the principles of their new party. If they refuse to sign, they may still vote, but the ballot will be counted as "provisional," giving the board of elections 10 days to investigate its veracity. In an even more bizarre twist under Ohio law, if a majority of poll workers doubt the loyalty of a crossover voter, they may classify the ballot cast as provisional, whether the voter signs the form or not.

During this year's primary there were numerous voters who crossed over from Republican to Democrat in order to vote for Hillary. This followed Rush Limbaughs urging for Republicans to do just that. People even went as far as to appear on TV saying they did this because Rush urged them to. So the question must be answered if Limbaugh invoked a criminal act.

Now we have an investigation into people switching parties in order to answer Rush's wish:

The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections has launched an investigation that could lead to criminal charges against voters who maliciously switched parties for the March 4 presidential primary.

Elections workers will look for evidence that voters lied when they signed affidavits pledging allegiance to their new party. And at least one board member, Sandy McNair, a Democrat, wants the county prosecutor to review the findings.

But it remained unclear Wednesday whether the four-member board will agree to pursue prosecution. A 2-2 vote would mean that Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat, would have to break the tie.

During this investigation, Rush Limbaugh must be looked at. He used public airwaves to encourage people to engage in an illegal activity. At the minimum we should see a FCC investigation into this.

More Wingnut "Humor"

"Everyone knows the Clintons have a cat. Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is a White House dog?" He then held up a picture of 12-year-old Chelsea.

--Rush Limbaugh on his Fox TV show, 1993

(h/t Cesca)

Yup - the wingnuts have always gone after Chelsea. Remember how this was all fine and dandy, yet no one could talk about Mary Cheney? It isn't the Clintons that created this environment, it's the right wingers. The Clintons are now just using it to their advantage.

Limbaugh Devotes Entire Show To Trashing McCain

Mon Feb 4, 2008 at 07:57 pm

I can't believe I am here defending John McCain, but this is getting to be ridiculous:

Continuing his attack on Republican frontrunner Sen. John McCain, conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh devoted a significant portion of his radio show Monday to urging conservatives not to vote for the senator in tomorrow's Super Tuesday contests.

For weeks, Limbaugh has been on the attack against McCain, branding the Arizona senator a "liberal" an

Here's the problem I have. Rush is broadcast on public airwaves throughout the nation. He is now using these public airwaves to promote his own political agenda. Does any other candidate, Democratic or Republican, have such time on the airwaves?

Rush has also recently called Hillary Clinton a "hoe" and Barack Obama a "spade". So should this hate speech be allowed to continue on our airwaves?

Perhaps it's time for people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to stop giving a free pass to Limbaugh. While we are at it, perhaps we need the FCC and FEC to step up and start enforcing the laws and regulations.

Also someone should ask the White House why Cheney supports Limbaugh. He goes on his show all the time. Does Cheney think Hillary is a hoe and Obama is a spade? Does Cheney hate John McCain as much as Rush?

Limbaugh Does An Imus

Wed Jan 16, 2008 at 09:31 am

A Spade And A Hoe parody about Obama and Clinton. When will they kick this sexist, racist asshole off the public airwaves? Will Sharpton and Jackson go after him like they did Imus? It's time for them to do that.

John Boehner Thinks Jack Murtha Is A Phoney Soldier

Tue Oct 23, 2007 at 12:54 pm

Seriously. This from a man who never once saw combat. He didn't come right out and say it, but this email response shows that he fully supports Rush's comments:

Dear Jamie :

Thank you for contacting me in regard to Rush Limbaugh's recent statements. It is good to hear from you.

Limbaugh's "phony soldiers" statement was spawned by a recent incident in which Jesse Macbeth, a civilian anti-war protester, made false claims of being an Army Ranger and veteran of the Iraq War. He joined Iraq Veterans Against the War in January, 2006, and even publicly represented the group at various events throughout the country. On September 21, 2007, he admitted in federal court that he had faked his war record. When Limbaugh responded to a caller about war protesters, it is evident that h e used the term "phony soldiers " while alluding to the recent situation regarding Jesse Macbeth.

Since this incident, Rep. John Hall and Rep. Mark Udall, both House D emocrats, have introduced resolutions condemning Rush Limbaugh's remarks. These resolutions have undoubtedly been drafted as a form of appeasement to an extreme liberal left, and I find it disheartening that they would take his comments out of context to play partisan politics when our country clearly has more important issues in need of attention. If at any time either of these resolutions reach the floor of the House of Representatives, I will welcome the opportunity to join with my colleagues in ensuring its defeat.

Rush Limbaugh's strong support of and charity for U.S. troops is well established and was even recognized by the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. Unlike radical left-wing groups and their followers, Limbaugh's goal is to boost troop morale, not depress it by stalling the resources troops need to complete their mission.

Thank you again for contacting me with your thoughts. Please don't hesitate to inform me of your concerns in the future.

Sincerely,

John A. Boehner

And Boehner accuses those against the war of not supporting our troops. Imagine that. This from the same man who called each dead soldier a "small price to pay". This man is beyond the pale. We really need to find someone to replace him next year. John Boehner doesn't even deserve a seat on city council in Redneck USA.

Troops Supporting Withdrawal Are "Phony Troops"?

Thu Sep 27, 2007 at 06:42 pm

So says Rush Limbaugh:

During the September 26 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh called service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq “phony soldiers.” He made the comment while discussing with a caller a conversation he had with a previous caller, “Mike from Chicago,” who said he “used to be military,” and “believe[s] that we should pull out of Iraq.” Limbaugh told the second caller, whom he identified as “Mike, this one from Olympia, Washington,” that “[t]here’s a lot” that people who favor U.S. withdrawal “don’t understand” and that when asked why the United States should pull out, their only answer is, ” ‘Well, we just gotta bring the troops home.’ … ‘Save the — keeps the troops safe’ or whatever,” adding, “[I]t’s not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.” “Mike” from Olympia replied, “No, it’s not, and what’s really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.” Limbaugh interjected, “The phony soldiers.” The caller, who had earlier said, “I am a serving American military, in the Army,” agreed, replying, “The phony soldiers.”

John Amato is urging people to call on the Senate and House leadership to introduce legislation condemning the comments of Limbaugh. This is a must. The Move On ad went after one person, Limbaugh has gone after a majority of United States soldiers. The Move On ad was placed in a newspaper. Rush Limbaugh made these comments over publicly owned airwaves. The same legislation that passed against MoveOn must be passed against Limbaugh. Any member of Congress who does not believe so is proving their hypocrisy and the voters will remember that.
