McCain: "We were able to help the Afghan freedom fighters
drive the Russians out of Afghanistan we washed our hands of the the region."

Those so called 'freedom fighters" were the Mujahideen, who were Muslim extremists recruited and trained by the U.S. to fight push Russia out of Afghanistan, but McCain is now calling them simply "freedom fighters". Yup - to John McCain Osama bin Laden is a "freedom fighter".

Sounds kind of convenient:

The US military has lost a year's worth of records describing the Guantanamo confinement of Osama bin Laden's driver, a prosecutor said at the Yemeni captive's war court hearing.

Lawyers for the driver, Salim Ahmed Hamdan, asked for the records to support their argument that prolonged isolation and harassment at the Guantanamo prison have mentally impaired him and could affect his ability to aid in his defence against war crimes charges.

"All known records have been produced with the exception of the 2002 Gitmo (A nickname for Guantanamo Bay) records," one of the prosecutors, Navy Lieutenant Commodore Timothy Stone, told the court. "They can't find it."

I would check in the same location as the waterboarding video tapes. It's a damn good chance you will find them there.

The war on terror is actually fueling al Qaeda. That is the determination of a new study:

A report by the Oxford Research Group (ORG) said a "fundamental re-think is required" if the global terrorist network is to be rendered ineffective.

"If the al Qaeda movement is to be countered, then the roots of its support must be understood and systematically undercut," said Paul Rogers, the report's author and professor of global peace studies at Bradford University in northern England.

"Combined with conventional policing and security measures, al Qaeda can be contained and minimized but this will require a change in policy at every level."

He described the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq as a "disastrous mistake" which had helped establish a "most valued jihadist combat training zone" for al Qaeda supporters.

The report also suggests an immediate withdrawal of foreign troops from Iraq and opening diplomacy with Syria and Iran. The key part comes at the end of this article:

"Going to war with Iran," he said, "will make matters far worse, playing directly into the hands of extreme elements and adding greatly to the violence across the region. Whatever the problems with Iran, war should be avoided at all costs."

We seem to have a serious problem when it comes to history in our country. Hard to believe things that happened in the 90's have been quickly forgotten. For my loyal readers, this will sound familiar, but it deserves repeating. We created Osama bin Laden!

No this is not some tinfoil hat conspiracy, it is the consensus of numerous terrorism experts. Bin Laden was our asset until the first Gulf War. When the Saudi's allowed us into help defeat Saddam at that time, Osama broke off contact with the Saudi's and us. His reasons were simple and very religious; once the infidel (that would be us) enters the holy land, we will not leave. Well we have been there ever since, and the Iraq war just added more foundation to that claim.

George Bush has done nothing to stop bin Laden. In fact Bush's actions have strengthened bin Laden, making him more of a prophet than a man. You can't declare war on an ideology. Terrorism has been around since the beginning of time and will be around until it ends. A war on this ideology is nothing more than an aphrodisiac to the war mongers. It is time we declare an end to Iraq and the bullshit "war on terror".

The report also comes to the same conclusion most of us have had - the "war on terror" is something that should be fought with good old fashioned police work. All these thwarted attacks we have heard about - yeah that was police work. The longer we keep this faux war up, the more danger we will face. Stop Bush and stop this war.
