al-Qaeda May Move Outside Iraq?

Tue Feb 5, 2008 at 02:07 pm

Ok this is an interesting statement:

The director of national intelligence said Tuesday he is concerned that al-Qaida in Iraq is shifting its focus to attacks elsewhere in the region.

"They may deploy resources to mount attacks outside the country," Mike McConnell told a Senate hearing, although he also said that fewer than 100 terrorists have moved to establish cells in other countries.

At the same hearing, CIA Director Michael Hayden publicly confirmed for the first time the names of three suspected al-Qaida terrorists who were subjected to a particularly harsh interrogation technique known as waterboarding, and why.

I thought al Qadea was already operating outside of Iraq? What about 9/11, the London train bombings, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc., etc.?

If You Waterboard Me Then It Is Torture

That's what the nation's chief spook said:

The nation's intelligence chief says that waterboarding "would be torture" if used against him, or if someone under interrogation was taking water into his lungs.

But Mike McConnell declined for legal reasons to say whether the technique categorically should be considered torture.

So we now are a nation of selective law - laws that only apply to certain people, but get ignored for others. Bullshit. It's time for congress to really focus on this issue and take whatever steps are necessary. I don't care if an impeachment vote is held on January 19th, 2009, we need it on record that this nation as a whole condemns the actions of this President and his administration.
