Crime

Stoopid

People like this is the very reason abortion is legal:

Two seasonal Yellowstone National Park concession workers have been fired after a live webcam caught them urinating into the Old Faithful geyser.

Park spokesman Al Nash says a 23-year-old man on Tuesday was fined $750 and placed on three years of unsupervised probation for urinating, being off trail in a restricted area and taking items from the area. The man also was banned from Yellowstone for two years.

Now that was one expensive prank.

Welcome To The Surveillance Society

This is the kind of Orwellian scary shit you think is only possible in books:

The FBI is gearing up to create a massive computer database of
people's physical characteristics, all part of an effort the bureau
says to better identify criminals and terrorists.

But it's an issue that raises major privacy concerns -- what one civil liberties expert says should concern all Americans.

The
bureau is expected to announce in coming days the awarding of a $1
billion, 10-year contract to help create the database that will compile
an array of biometric information -- from palm prints to eye scans.

So while we are seeing record deficits, we can still find money to dump into this stuff? While our citizens can't even get health care, our government can fork out money to create their super database. This is ridiculous.

Sure it will start with just having known criminals in the database, but you can bet down the road someone will say "hey let's do everyone". Then everyone will have to line up for the "scan your body" day at the local mall.

Hopefully our next President will pull the plug on this program. I would rather see $1 billion wasted then it getting abused - something the FBI does have a history of (see Patriot Act).

Another Store Shooting

Five women killed in what is being described as a store robbery in Illinois. As our economy continues to tank I am sure we can plan on seeing more of these crimes. It's just a simple fact - when people are down and out they will turn to extreme measures. What can be more down and out then losing your home?
